Our Story

Our Story

Zero Mode began with a simple idea: create something extraordinary from nothing but intention, exceptional produce and care.

We chose Box Hill as our home to honour the rich Asian food culture that surrounds us. We take those flavours and pair them with the best of modern Australian cooking, refined with a bistro sensibility. Respect for tradition, with the freedom to reimagine it.

From dawn to dusk and well into the evening, from breakfast and lunch to dinner, wine and cocktails, every hour has its own mode. Whether you're here for a morning coffee or a long fusion dinner with fine wine, you're always in Zero Mode.

有 means “to have”. From zero, something. Our two marks carry the same idea.

Asian fusion · Box Hill

Premium Australian produce meets the flavours of Asia.

In the morning it's a modern café. In the evening it becomes an intimate fusion bistro, with dinner, fine wine and cocktails. We start with a blank canvas and build each plate with intention, balance and a little surprise.

We make something out of nothing. We are Zero Mode.

The kitchen

Guided by contrast and harmony.

Fresh pineapple is grilled over woody cinnamon. Dragon fruit meets bee pollen. Wagyu is cooked twice and finished with sesame leaf and yuzu. These are East-meets-West flavours, prepared with precision.
